{"id":46,"date":"2016-01-09T15:37:54","date_gmt":"2016-01-09T15:37:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/muthu.co\/?p=46"},"modified":"2021-01-02T14:06:15","modified_gmt":"2021-01-02T14:06:15","slug":"the-four-color-theorem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/write.muthu.co\/the-four-color-theorem\/","title":{"rendered":"The Four Color Theorem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four color theorem states that any given plane figure separated by lines can be colored using not more than 4 colors!<br \/>\nFirst proposed in 1852 when a\u00a0man named Francis Guthrie who was coloring a map of the counties of England discovered that he was able to color all the adjacent countries using only 4 colors where none of the adjacent countries had the same color.<br \/>\nEven though it worked wonderfully it was hard to prove why it happened.<br \/>\nTake a look at the below map and count the number of colors being used.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/muthu.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/usa.gif\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-47\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47\" src=\"https:\/\/muthu.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/usa.gif\" alt=\"four color theorem\" width=\"495\" height=\"309\" \/><\/a>As you can see in the map above, no adjacent city shares the same color!<\/p>\n<p>Many mathematicians tried to prove this theorem but none were ever able to prove it until 1976 when two mathematicians\u00a0Kenneth Appel and Wolfgang Haken from the\u00a0University of Illinois proved this using computer.
